BMI Calculator

BMI Calculator

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It uses your height and weight to estimate whether your weight falls within a healthy range for your height.

*BMI does not directly measure body fat and may not accurately reflect health for individuals with high muscle mass, pregnant women, children, older adults, certain ethnic groups, or those with medical conditions. It should be used as one of several tools when evaluating overall health. This calculator does not determine eligibility for weight-loss medications. A healthcare provider should evaluate your medical history and health status before making treatment decisions.

Understanding
Your Results

A deeper look at what your results mean, why they matter, and practical ways to support your health and wellness goals.

What Is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple screening tool that estimates whether your weight is appropriate for your height. While it doesn’t measure body fat directly, it can provide a helpful starting point for understanding your overall health and identifying whether lifestyle changes may be beneficial.

What Your BMI Can Tell You

Your BMI falls into one of several general categories:

– Underweight

– Healthy Weight

– Overweight

– Obesity

These categories help identify potential health risks, but they don’t tell the complete story. Your healthcare provider may also consider factors such as age, muscle mass, body composition, and overall health.

BMI Is a Starting Point, Not the Whole Picture

BMI is a useful screening tool, but it doesn’t distinguish between muscle and body fat. Athletes and people with higher muscle mass may have a higher BMI despite being healthy. Likewise, someone with a normal BMI may still have health risks related to body composition or lifestyle.

Why Maintaining a Healthy Weight Matters

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight may help support:

– Heart health

– Healthy blood pressure

– Normal blood sugar levels

– Joint comfort and mobility

– Energy and daily activity

– Overall long-term wellness

Even modest weight loss may provide meaningful health benefits for many individuals.

BMI Doesn't Measure Body Fat

Two people can have the same BMI but very different body compositions. Factors such as muscle mass, bone density, and fat distribution all influence overall health. That’s why BMI should always be considered alongside other health measurements.
