Do Not Use Skin Lightening Cream If You:
- Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to hydroquinone, hydrocortisone, kojic acid, tretinoin, or any ingredient in the formulation
- Have severely irritated, sunburned, broken, or infected skin in the intended treatment area unless specifically directed by your healthcare provider
- Have experienced a serious reaction to hydroquinone, topical corticosteroids, retinoids, or similar topical treatments
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant without first discussing treatment with your healthcare provider
- Have been advised by your healthcare provider to avoid topical retinoids or corticosteroids
Before Using Skin Lightening Cream
Tell your healthcare provider if you:
- Have eczema, dermatitis, rosacea, or another chronic skin condition
- Have sensitive skin or a history of severe skin reactions
- Have an active skin infection
- Have previously developed unusual skin discoloration from hydroquinone
- Are using other prescription topical medications
- Use retinoids, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide, scrubs, chemical peels, waxing treatments, or other potentially irritating skincare products
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Are taking prescription medications or using other medicated skincare products
Common Side Effects
Possible side effects may include:
- Redness
- Dryness or peeling
- Mild burning, stinging, or tingling
- Itching
- Increased skin sensitivity
- Temporary irritation
- Increased sensitivity to sunlight
- Changes in skin pigmentation
Some irritation may occur when beginning treatment, particularly because the formulation contains tretinoin.
Serious Side Effects
Stop treatment and contact your healthcare provider promptly if you experience:
- Severe or persistent redness, burning, peeling, or irritation
- Blistering, crusting, or significant swelling
- Severe or worsening rash
- Unusual blue-black or dark discoloration of the skin, which may be a sign of exogenous ochronosis associated with hydroquinone
- Skin thinning, easy bruising, stretch marks, or other significant skin changes that may occur with excessive or prolonged corticosteroid exposure
- Signs of a skin infection
- Hives, facial or throat swelling, difficulty breathing, or other signs of a serious allergic reaction
Additional Safety Information
- Use Skin Lightening Cream exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
- Apply only a thin layer to the areas directed by your provider.
- Do not apply more frequently or use larger amounts in an attempt to obtain faster results.
- Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucous membranes.
- Avoid applying to cuts, abrasions, sunburned skin, or severely irritated skin unless directed.
- Tretinoin can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Minimize unnecessary sun exposure and use appropriate sun protection as recommended by your healthcare provider.
- Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps.
- Using abrasive cleansers, waxing, chemical peels, exfoliating acids, retinoids, or other irritating products may increase skin irritation.
- Hydroquinone should not be used longer than directed. Prolonged or inappropriate use may increase the risk of unwanted pigmentation changes, including exogenous ochronosis.
- Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid. Excessive, prolonged, or widespread use may cause skin thinning and other corticosteroid-related effects.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Pregnancy Warning
Because this formulation contains tretinoin, tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning pregnancy. Your provider should determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Do not begin or continue treatment during pregnancy without medical guidance.
